Advertising Guidelines has developed advertising guidelines that intend to set out all general rules of what is and isn’t acceptable when advertising with standard digital ad units are in line with the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) Universal Ad Package (UAP). Please refer to individual specs you’ll find here in our ad centre.

Rules for Advertising

  • reserves the right to remove or request amends to any creative which is deemed unsuitable for the site.
  • may remove any advertising it deems unacceptable
  • reserves the right to refuse to publish any advertising.
  • reserves the right to reject/remove any rich media ad from rotation that does not meet creative specifications, contravenes guidelines or adversely affects site performance other ad placements or user experience.
  • Advertising may be removed or rejected for the following:
    • Contain nudity, violence or profanity
    • Pretend to be content, destroy or be disrespectful
    • Contain rapid image sequences or strobe effects
    • Contain uninitiated sound
    • Disable site functionality
    • Contain or prompt download of executable/installation files
    • Set third, fourth etc. party cookies for pre- or re-targeting purposes
    • Creative running in the BUY section must not contain the following phrases in their message or links – “mortgage calculator”, “home loan calculator”, “mortgage repayment calculator” or “how much can I borrow?”.
  • Advertising must adhere to the following:
    • If the banner background colour is white and/or does not fill the entire space, please include a one-pixel border of HEX Web Colour #CCCCCC.
    • Be of acceptable quality – i.e. must meet suitable image resolution, design of a professional standard etc.
    • Users must have the ability to control rich media units, i.e. able to terminate, shut down or minimise overlays, players etc.
    • include a static or animated fallback creative format to be served to users with low powered devices, without sufficient plugins or where JavaScript disabled.
    • be fully SSL-compliant (i.e. use HTTPS) in any 3rd party serving calls (full redirects and ‘tracker-only’ tags) and HTML5 library / scripting / content / external calls ( or 3rd party served)
  • Acceptable
    • Max animation length: 15 seconds unless user-initiated. Animation can loop twice (play through 3 times). No continuous looping permitted

  • Deliverables: a zip file containing all assets (.js, .css, .gif, .jpg etc.); backup image as (.gif, .jpg); click URL(s) (third party click trackers and impression trackers also supported)
  • Zip file contents must be named and set-out using the following convention:
    • css/
    • js/
    • img/
    • index.html (at root of zip folder)
  • Backup image is mandatory (displays on non-HTML5 compliant browsers)
  • Any external calls to additional assets must use the Secure https:// protocol
  • Max file size of all assets (uncompressed) 100KB includes all ad assets such as HTML, CSS, JS & images. Shared libraries that are hosted by approved 3rd Party Vendors are not included in the Max File Size. Please contact your vendor representative for a list of supported libraries.
  • Filename must not contain any special characters.
  • Do not embed click-through URLs directly in to the code as this will not allow clicks to be tracked.
  • Maximum of 3 click tags supported – please embed the code snippets below to implement click-through URLs.

Third-Party Ad Tag Types

Ads within the network may be submitted through either iframe or JavaScript ad-tags (javascript being preferred). All approved third-party vendors support both methods; however, a member of the Ad Operations team will inform you if a specific execution requires a particular tag type/delivery method. Third-party redirect tags must be live when submitted.
