THE HISTORY Eureka Street was named after Eureka Poultry Farm which operated here during the 30s. It was owned by a former Mayor who auctioned off the land in 1942. The block at 18 Hoare Street was part of a subdivision in 1933 with two adjacent blocks bought by a local Cairns builder. He and his brother built this current residence which was completed at around 1950. The grounds originally contained a full-sized tennis court and large gerbera gardens. Many older residents involved in the Cairns tennis community will have spent time learning and playing tennis here. That adjacent block was sold and is now apartments. The house block was subdivided in 1968 and the adjacent side brick residence on Eureka Street was constructed, leaving this magnificent residence sitting on its own on still over 1200m2.
