Overview Essendon North is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located 10 kilometres northwest of Melbourne’s central business district. The suburb is adjacent to Essendon Airport, with the City of Moonee Valley as its local government area. As per the 2016 population census, it had 2,987 people living in the area.
Living in Essendon North Essendon North is a residential suburb bounded by Calder Freeway, Keilor Road, and Bulla Road. A tram service, churches, schools, and hotels attracted the residential development in the area. Some local bowlers also established the Doutta Galla bowls club in 1944. They used a farmhouse from Diggers Rest to make clubrooms. The suburb has close access to shops in Keilor Road, Niddrie. The area is also accessible to transport.
History of Essendon North In 1992, Essendon North was added to the city of Essendon, and in 1998 it was gazetted as a suburb. Between 1886 and 1890, a Methodist church and a Church of Christ were opened in Essendon. The development took place with the commencement of a tram service in 1906. The tram service was opened from Flemington Bridge to the end of Mount Alexander Road. Today, the area is quite developed and loved by families as well as individuals.
