Living in Huntingdale Huntingdale is a mix of residential (on its north) and industrial areas (on its south). The suburb has a notable population of Muslims and Hindus. A mosque and a Hindu temple are located within Huntingdale. The Australian Bangladesh Council is also located here.

Before becoming a suburb, Huntingdale was known as East Oakleigh as it was first built in the early 20th century as an extension of Oakleigh.

The suburb’s Post Office was opened in June of 1918, followed by a railway station in 1927. Both facilities were called East Oakleigh but were later renamed Huntingdale in 1955.
