This suburb sits at an elevation of 6 metres above sea level. Kippa-Ring is surrounded by a few suburbs, including Rothwell, Newport, Redcliffe, Margate, and Clontarf.
Living in Kippa-Ring Kippa-Ring is a vibrant residential suburb with some commercial activity. In fact, it is home to two major shopping centres – the Peninsula Fair and the Kippa-Ring Shopping Centre. History of Kippa-Ring The name of this suburb is derived from two sources: Kippa is an Indigenous word that means “uninitiated man”, and the ring was added to refer to the bora ring. The latter is linked to a traditional initiation ceremony performed by the Aboriginal people. The suburb was established in 1971, but during this time, it was still largely underdeveloped. Most of the land was used for small scale commercial activities and farming.
