History Of South Wentworthville Wentworthville is a Sydney neighbourhood to the west. D'Arcy Wentworth, a well-respected and revered colony physician and nobleman, was honoured with the name. Moreover, Wentworth was appointed deputy physician at Parramatta in 1796 and eventually chief physician. He leased property in Parramatta, which is now near D'Arcy Street. In 1799, he was awarded an additional 6 acres in the same region.
Furthermore, Wentworth was a brilliant businessman who amassed enormous money. By 1821, Wentworth held grants totalling 17'000 acres, which he had supplemented with acquisitions. Fitzwilliam Way was the name given to this vast property, and the mansion that stood on it was known as Wentworth Woodhouse.
